Hints & Tips for Packing Your Items

A little prep before you pack goes a long way. Whether you’re storing for a week or a year, these tips will help you make the most of your space and keep your belongings in great condition while they’re with us.

Clothing

Make sure all clothes are completely clean and dry before you pack them — in Townsville’s humidity, even faint moisture can lead to mould over time. Vacuum packing is a great way to save space and keep clothes protected, fresh, and ready to wear when you need them.

Books

Books store best when they’re dry and well-organised. Rather than loading everything into one heavy box, spread them across several smaller ones — your back will thank you, and the spines will stay in better shape. Stack them upright or flat, not on the spine.

Domestic Machinery

Lawn mowers, leaf blowers, and similar equipment must be completely drained of petrol and oil before going into storage — this is a fire safety requirement, not just good practice. Wipe everything down and make sure it goes in clean and dry.

Metal Items and tools

Give all metal tools and equipment a good wipe down to remove any moisture and minimise the risk of rust. Wrap tools in bubble wrap or cloth to stop them scratching other items nearby. If you’re a tradie storing gear at Store Eezy, keeping everything wrapped and organised means faster access when you need it on site.

White Goods

Fridges, washing machines, and dryers need to go into storage empty, clean, and completely dry. Leave doors slightly ajar during storage to allow airflow and prevent mould from forming inside — this is especially important in Townsville’s tropical climate.

All goods stored at Store Eezy remain your property and your sole responsibility. We strongly recommend ensuring your belongings are covered by an appropriate insurance policy while in storage, as items stored at our facility are not automatically covered by facility insurance.

Clean and Protect What You’re Storing

Taking a few minutes to clean items before putting them into storage makes a real difference. Mould can form even in dry conditions if organic matter like food residue or grease is present on surfaces. Vacuum rugs, mattresses, and lounges before wrapping or covering them. In North Queensland’s climate, this extra step is well worth the effort.
